Are you sure it's not the valve cover leaking? It looks like you have some sort of heat shield in addition to the factory stuff. Those can sometimes melt or warp the vc causing it to leak. Easiest way to check the turbo oil line would be to take the little heat shield off of that and look for any oil on the line itself. Good luck.

It very well could be the valve cover, that was my second guess...and the first guess from the shop who would be doing the work for me when they saw the picture...I am taking it to them today...

I had the nm engineering heat shield on...for about a month, then my MINI dealer put the factory TSB shield on and stripped out the threaded mounting posts for the NM part.... so it has not been on there for a loooong time....

I will let the car cool down the rest of the day before messing with the turbo shield...it gets a little too hot for me...but on looking at it compared to some of the images I have seen of failures, I don't think thats it, it does not look bad at all.

BTW...thanks!

Mine did that, its was the valve cover gasket itself.

Yes, we go over the turbo oil lines replacement in our Turbocharger Replacement DIY at the very bottom under exhaust.

Oil lines and heat shield - http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/..._pg1.htm#item1

So if you're in the parts catalog: http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/...36_catalog.htm

Click on the "tech info" tab at the top. Then click onto the R56 articles and scroll all the way to the bottom, it's the last one under "exhaust" called "Turbocharger Replacement." It's the very last article for all the R56 ones. Let me know if you can't find it.

Putting it into service mode will make the job much easier, but you don't have to. Just check out the images in the article of the locations of where you'll need to remove the items and see if you can reach/see them on your car for comparison. Some had issues with the heat shield bolts and others didn't as you can see here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ml#post3972027

You don't really need to put it into service mode. It's a lot of work form not that much extra room. We do them all the time and never put the car is service mode. And i highly recommend our super kit over putting a stock line back in that is just going to leak again. http://www.detroittuned.com/dt-turbo...ine-super-kit/

I highly recommend the DT super oil line kit. I performed the replacement myself without placing the car in service mode. It was a real pain but I got it done with the help of a friend over a weekend.

I too recommend the DT oil line kit. I installed it as a preemptive measure when I upgraded my turbocharger. Very high quality and should never leak again.

- pelican parts has a good guide on heatshield removal and front bumper removal. A lot of the relevant information was tucked in the Turbocharger removal guide, not under Turbo Oil Line. I also used the Oil Cooler Gasket guide.

- I bought a Bentley manual and read it thoroughly. I used it for front bumper removal, intercooler removal, front end service mode (even though the subframe was rusted on and I couldn't move it), and downpipe removal

- There's a bentley video on Youtube about front end service mode if you wanted to do that. It's actually very straight forward but if your car lives in the upper midwest the rust really welds the subframe pieces on and you can't move it.

- If you have an older car, I highly recommend getting a propane torch to help heat up some of the bolts. I had one and used it for the exhaust clamp (heavily rusted) and one of the turbo downpipe studs.

- I used the DT turbo oil line PDF that is on their website, and it was decent but assumes you have done a lot of the preliminary steps including the heatshield removal (all 3 of them) and the turbo support bracket.

- Definitely have a friend to help you, I had one with me and it was extremely helpful to have someone hold your wrench from the top while you ratchet from the bottom

I completed the turbo oil line, oil filter housing gasket (not oil cooler though), IC replacement and DP replacement over a weekend, probably spending 15-20 hours total on the job with two people. A lot of that time was spent in the beginning figuring out how to get things apart, the reassembly was much easier. Good luck!

You need to remove the Down Pipe and Heat shield..then you will see the oil line..I then drained the oil and of course might as well change the oil..I don't remember the size of the nuts..but its doable. I did mine in like an 1 hr or so...Once the dp is off and the heat shield is off...replace the oil line by snaking it up through bottom to top "from block to top of turbo"...
then put all back and BOOM..you got er done...

FYI, no need to drain the oil. It gravity feeds down through the return line. There might be a drop or too if that.

There is a good diy here , which also shows the filter housing gasket. Which I would do at the same time.

We go over a coolant change for the R56 in the coolant change article under the 1st gen MINI section if needed.
