Oil Change

Changing my oil this morning and proceeded to remove drain plug and no oil. Checked oil level and it is full. Removed oil filler cap and oil filter thinking that would help and still no oil comes out of the drain plug. any suggestions would be helpful.

Ahhh are you sure you removed the drain plug? Did you use an allen key/socket on the plug? This makes absolutely no sense... really weird.

Removed the right plug. When I first remove it about a eight of a quart of oil comes out and then it stops. If I get this resolved this Mini is gone. tired of the hassles and unreliability.

I dont know much about this but you could try an oil sucker and suck it out from the pan.

Maybe something is blocking it? Did you stick something up in it to make sure it is clear?

i don't understand how that can be. Maybe your reading the dipstick incorrectly and the car was actually low on oil? You did state that some oil came out of the plug hole? Sounds mighty suspicious to me. I would investigate further before driving the mini at all.

Do you have a manual or an automatic transmission?

what year and model of mini is this? turbo, supercharger or justa?
what is the current mileage of the car?
miles since the last oil change?
brand/weight of oil used at last change and brand/weight of makeup oil added since last oil change?
any oil additives used?

i have seen 3 conditions that can cause oil sludge so bad that it would block the drain plug

1)not changing the oil/filter often enough

2)mixing oil types, ie adding 30 weight lawn mower oil to multigrade synthetic automotive oil, or adding 2-stroke oil to a 4-stoke, or using "snake oil" additives

3)a small coolant leak into the oil combined with very extended change intervals

as a further test, remove drain plug

add one quart/liter of oil to filler

watch for a quart/liter of oil to come out of the drain

This is about tenth time that I have changed oil in this car and believe it or not I took the transaxel plug out instead. Anyone know what type of transaxel fluid is used?

It's MTF-LT-4 fluid (BMW p/n #83220421925).

believe it?

sorry, but saw that commin' down the road from your first post . . .

On the positive side you are far from the FIRST one who's made the mistake.

My cue: the oil pan is black and the tranny is silver . . .

and there is even a sticker to warn you - or hlp fix your booboo

So where do you stand on:

If I get this resolved this Mini is gone. tired of the hassles and unreliability.

From my programming days:

When you are sure everything is right
and the program still doesn't work
something you are sure of
is wrong

{BTW u have a MINI, and I have a Mini and a MINI}

Glad that was resolved,
