Check engine light UPDATE

Well the check engine light came on today with about 8000 miles on the clock.
The strange thing is when scrolling through the display diagnostics, everything says OK!
Going to have my son scan it,but already have an appt. set up in a couple weeks.
This sucks!

If you have not already done so, make sure your gas cap and oil fill cap are on properly. I created a similar problem for myself with an improper installation of the oil fill cap.

Thanks for the tip.
Pretty sure its not those things.Already ran half a tank when the light came on.
Never heard of the oil cap setting a code and it has not been off since since 6000 miles ago.

What scanner were you using? A generic OBDII scanner? A iPhone app?
Or an approved MINI-protocol scanner like a Bavarian Technic?

Happened to me with the gas cap but it was instantly not after several miles.

Same thing happened to me today. I pulled the code with my Garmin EcoRoute HD: P2402 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detection Pump Control Circuit High

Only thread I've seen about it is here:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...02-anyone.html

I checked the oil and gas cap. All seemed tight, so no idea what it could be.

Anyways, going to take it into the dealer this week when I get a chance.

BTW, this is a 2011 MCSa. No mods.

Have not scanned yet.
Think my son has a OBD type.

Let me guess, only the mini approved will work?

No, a generic OBDII scanner will work, but it may not pick up the specific fault like a MINI-protocol unit.
Generic OBDII scanners are just that, 'generic'. They don't have the exact listing of faults from the manufacturer.
They only have the federal mandated P-codes which can steer your diagnosis in the wrong direction.

The best is to use a MINI approved but many of ODBII generics will at least give you an idea of where to start. iPhone/Android apps can be sketchy as they can be very very very generic.

A solid illuminated CEL won't ruin anything, a flashing CEL can damage emission components like a catalyst.

* MINI DTC P173D (0xCF2D) - CAN Engine Coolant Temperature Invalid
The ECU isn't seeing the proper engine coolant temperature, either because the Coolant Temperature Sensor (CTS) is failing, or there's a wiring issue.
It's a common trend recently that the CTS fails without warning causing problems with performance as the ECU doesn't know if the engine is up to running temp or not.
Start there, and replace the CTS and clear codes; see what that does for you.

I cannot confirm such yet, but there has been other CTS replacement cases under warranty with similar situtations.

Got mine back from the dealer today. Was throwing P2402. Gas, oil caps were tight. They replaced the fuel tank breather.

Part #: 1 13-90-7-624-542

All seems to be well now.

Update

The dealer had to replace the thermostat/coolant temperature sensor. That was also draining the battery by leaving the fan running longer.
They also replaced the oil pump solenoid and wiring harness due to oil intrusion.

Along with that they replaced both sun visors.

What was wrong with the sun visors?

The hinges on the flip up mirrors would pop out.

I had to replace both of my sun visor for the same reason and my gf's broke as well. It seem s that the plastic that they used on the hinge is not strong enough or faulty.
