Bad smell

Hello all,
So the other day i was driving and i shifted from 1st to 2nd and my car made a funny noise and just went it to limp mode. I pulled over looked at everything and didnt notice anything out of the ordinary. Drove it home about 3 miles and parked it for the night next day i go out and notice something leaking under my car right under where the belt line is. Pop the hood and get a nasty smell and notice fluid all over my belt line and around that general area. It smells like something died under my car. I haven't had a chance to climb under my car yet but would like to do it tomorrow to see if i can see anything. But would like to know if anyone has had this happen before. I know its not oil, or coolant.
Thanks

Recently a fellow on here blew up his belt tensioner damper with similar symptoms to yours. Check that out.
