Mini not starting

Hi Guys

So I put in a new clutch, flywheel and pressure plate. Bolted all up and tried to start the car. It just makes the sound like when you have run out of fuel but the tank is full.

Ive checked pretty much all wiring and certain all are correct.

Does the r56 have a fuel safety shut off that could have tripped due to the bumpers not being on?

Having gone under whilst cranking I see the flywheel spinning.

I'm totally exhausted and slowly loosing hope. Really need some input

Ok managed to strip the gearbox down again, anyone care to share what the ring behind the flywheel is for with the teeth that face towards the engine?

It looks one of those teeth bent badly and the other teeth all look bit odd. Luckily I have a replacement but wanted to know the name of this piece and the purpose it serves.

I don't know for a fact, but it sounds like a trigger wheel that tells the engine management about the position and speed of the crankshaft rotation. Usually those will have one tooth "missing", though maybe not in some cases. Is there some electrical component that gets very close to those teeth? That would be the sensor itself.

Hi I found out its called a Reluctor ring and yes you right it works with the crankshaft. And yes there is a section that doesn't have teeth, but in my situation one of the teeth actually bent so that probably explains why it refused to start. Let's see how I get along today.
