"Check Engine" light came on
"Check Engine" light came on
When I got in my car to drive to work yesterday morning, I noticed the CE light was on when I started the engine. "Great", I thought, "What now?" I just had it serviced last week at the dealership under the normal, free maintanance where they changed the oil, the front brake pads, wipers and did the usual checks. All was well. Now this.
I dropped it off at the dealership on the way to work and got a loaner (they usually give me a brand new MINI and this was no exception). The SA called me in the afternoon to inform me they found a bad thermostat and replaced that. When I picked the car up, the invoice stated they discoverd fault coade 293A so they tested the system to verify it and put in a new thermostat and housing then refilled the cooling system with coolant, bled it and pressure tested to ensure it was working properly.
The car was washed and ready to go by mid-afternoon. The drive home was uneventful and the car runs perfectly - the CE light is off.
Side Note: I have to say that whenever I've dealt with Irvine BMW/MINI for warranty or maintenance issues over the past 18 months, they have responded with nothing but first-class treatment and courtesy. They are efficient and competent and I would highly recommend them to anyone in the area wanting to buy a BMW or MINI or to anyone needing service. I've never said that about a dealer - except the Hummer dealership in Louisville, KY I got my H3 from - and I've dealt with lots of dealers over the years.

Glad to hear of the positive outcome. I had my CEL come on this past Thursday. Sadly, I will have to get the whole timing chain fix done on my dime. :-( But as always, Flow MINI has been an excellent dealership in taking care of me and my MINI.

Sounds like the same problem..

Edit:
The problem with our Mini is the temp sensor failed and water pump bearing went out.

The Mini is fixed. It looks like I am not the only one. I will keep an eye on the coolant temp.
So I found this thread:

Hope my goes off soon. If not a trip to the dealer and a charge for checking it out I am sure... since I am out of warranty.
