Turbo oil feed lines
Turbo oil feed lines
Been reading a bit about this issue. I have an '08 clubman s. Is this issue a guaranteed "it will happen eventually" type of event? Any way to check to see if things are starting to go bad now? Worth the money to replace these line(s) now (80k km) as preventative maintenance?? If so, recommendations on the replacement parts (OEM vs aftermarket).
As an aside any opinions on whether or not this failure or impending failure can be linked to an idling issue?
I've fairly religiously changed the oil at every 6000 km. And now that I'm out of warrantee, a kaput turbo is not something that would excite me much.

Sure, you can remove the line and insert a roto-rooter snake through it to see if there's any build-up or sludge.

A coked feed line is unlikely with such short oil change intervals. A leaking feed line, on the other hand is an eventuality. The added factory 'heat shield' helps, and can be easily added - it just snaps on.

As always, though, your mileage may vary... And if you do end up having to buy the part, it's not expensive (around $26)...
Good information to know. I bought my Clubman S used at 19k km, so I'm unsure of the maintenance before my ownership. Regardless, my maintenance is pretty frequent. The heat shield is something I want to check into now for sure. I didnt know about that one.
