I installed the mintex redbox, and even used some of that blue goopy brake squeal stuff. But i seem to have a bit of metal clanging noise when going over bumps, but not when the brakes are applied. Sounds like "pad clatter" to me. Anyone else experience this? Know what to do about it?
Thanks!

I've been listening the last couple of days...definitely sounds like the front brakes. If i drive around with the emergency brake engaged a little (which should be engaging only the rear brakes) I still hear the noise. If i slightly apply pressure to the brake pedal, the noise stops.

I actually had this exact same problem with my Audi. Ended up the brake pads were directional and they had arrows on them. I looked for this type of thing with the Mini and didn't see an arrows or anything on the pads.

I'm going to look right now....was just checking in here first...

What's weird is it's the exact same noise my audi had when the pads were on opposite sides of the car...hmmmm....

Ok, i checked. Everything is tight, everything is where it should be, i don't see anything out of the ordinary at all.
I was playing around and noticed that if i tap the caliper with a rubber mallet swinging from the front of the car and making contact to the front of the caliper as the mallet swings towards the rear of the car, I get the same kind of metal clang noise.
Went out for a spin again, and I hear it when hitting sharp bumps like expansion cracks or road reflectors. And usually you have to listen for it unless you are riding next to a curb or somewhere where the sound will reflect back at you.
I'm stumped.

Another suggestion is to take it apart and reinstall it. Sometimes that will solve the problem.

Well, i guess i'm gonna have to go back to the stock pads to see if that fixes things.

Ok, after the last triple check of the mintex installation, i let the pads stay in for a good thousand miles or so to see if the noise would go away after being fully bed in or something. Nope. Still there, no better, no worse. Metal clanging noise while going over small bumps in the road.
So before a road trip from Houston to Austin, i changed the front pads back to stock and left the mintex on the rear. Guess what..... quiet as a FREAKIN mouse! The whole 360 mile trip! WTF?!
I know i have the right pads because i talked to Mintex directly and they double checked the part numbers and also said that there were no design changes for the 04's as far as the brake systems were concerned.

So why the hell are my mintex pads making noise?! Are you guys with mintex driving with the windows down? Cause that's the only time i can hear it. It's not loud enough to hear with the windows up. Ugh.... so frustrating. But for now I'm just gonna deal with the excessive brake dust up front. I'm tired of removing wheels and changing pads.

I am now guessing that some moron boxed up the srong pads in the box they sent you or that the dimensions of that the pads themselves were manufactured way out of spec......did they fit sungly? (on the vertical axis) I don't use them but sure is weird......so tell us....so we can all giggle....how many times on and off??? Sorry    can't help it......

d2, sorry to hear that!

I have the Mintex for a while now. When weather permits, I like to drive with the windows down, but haven't yet notice any unusual noise. Since you've contacted Mintex, perhaps request to have them send you a set of replacement pads.

Have you try switching the front left with the right to see if the noise still exist on the same wheel or on the same pad?
