Burning rubber smell from belt side of engine

I was driving home from work when my mini just lost all power and went into limp mode.It wouldn't rev above 2000 rpms and then I noticed that there was a rattling sound coming from around the harmonic balancer and it was smoking from somewhere on the same side.If the dampener is bad I don't have the money to buy a $300 one.The eml, check engine, and traction control light are on as well.I have no way to scan for codes in it and I doubt anyone in town can.If anybody could help me with some suggestions that would be fantastic.Thanks.

Yup those are the tells of a broken crank pulley. Time to get an ATI Damper so you don't have to do it again. We have the Fluid Damper too, but My recommendation would be the ATI.

Get the upgraded pulley. I found out after i installed an OEM replacement that i could have saved $100 by getting the ATI. The install is pretty easy too except for getting the crank bolt out with out an impact wrench. Also get a new belt and crank bolt with the pulley since the original bolt will not stay put after it is removed and the belt will likely be bad. Tried to reuse the original bolt and it just came loose everytime i would start the car. I got mine from WMW for about $4

You can use an old stock pulley if you have to because of $$. It will be prone to the same issue even faster, but there are plenty sitting around because people replace them preemptively.
