'11 MCS Engine light on, Fan runs loud after turning car off
So earlier today after I pulled into my garage I noticed the fan on my MINI was running very loudly and I'm assuming that means quickly. It has never done this before except after driving it pretty hard up in the LA mountains. It was pretty hot today so I didn't think much of it.
About 5 hours later I went to drive 1 mile to the store and when I started the car the check engine light was on. There are no alerts or warnings in the vehicle status on the connected screen. I drove my 1 mile and the fan was doing the same thing after I got out.
I understand my car was part of a recall for the water pump circuitry failing and I was wondering if this has maybe happened to my car and the fan is trying to compensate for that.
I can't get it into the dealership until Monday at the earliest so I'm hoping this isn't a problem that is going to cause my baby to burst into flames over the weekend.
Does anybody have any real suggestions as to what this may be?

Same problem with my 2011 MCCS, at start up, fan turns on loud, motor is still cold, fan shuts off after 5-6 minutes after driving even for a short trip, I called mini service and said if the check engine light is yellow/orange I can still drive it as long as it does'nt turn red, finally today after almost 15 day of waiting I thought it was the thermostat, but it was the water pump, replaced it under warranty and off I go. This is given you feel no loss of power, no sluggishness, no transmission issues, no coolant mess under the car, no sudden drop in coolant level.I never felt any of these on my car. I hope this helps.
I had an appointment at 0730, got it back @ 1530. I believe that it (water pump) is always at hand because it's acommon issue. It might take less hours than yours because I got the 15000 mile service because of injector cleaning, oil change and tire alignment. Then don't push your car too hard now, drive less than 65mph. It takes patience and strength to do that after all we got a Mini. Be safe.
