I got 'new' ticking...
Just for the record: The timing belt tensioner update was already done my this car before I bought it. Please read on...
So I just has my MCS at the dealer for some warranty work. One of the issues that was of concern was the 'ticking' noise that is associated with the R56.
2 minutes after I start the car there is this sharp sounding and precise ticking that happens (like the ticking you would hear if you had a spark arching from your ignition system). The dealer said it was the ticking from the PCV valve. It goes away once warmed up. If I rev the engine it does not speed up with the engine which means its not rotational.
Anyone heard this before? Are they blowing smoke cause they have no idea either?

Not much help, but... my '08 Justa does this too. It has done it since new. I have about 45000 miles on mine.
Mine actually ticks at other random times even when warmed up. It just seems to come and go. I've never noticed any ill effects - just the sound.

I have exact the same thing happening on my 07 R56 - ticking noise after cold start, noise appears only when RPM is around 1,200 to 3,000, ticking does not go faster when speed up, and goes away when engine warms up. I brought it in at least five times for diagnosis, and was given the exact same explanation every time by different MINI mechanic - the plunge valve and normal noise. The ticking sound was there since I bought the car used. It has been a year and I have been living with it. It is quite annoying when it is -20C out there, it takes 10 mins of high way drive before the ticking goes away, and I have to crank up the radio 'pretending' i am not hearing it, definitely something wrong with the car, but I don't think the dealer has any idea what's going on. Shop foreman had been in the car twice and confirms this is normal. I would still laugh if MINI consider this normal by design. I will have to have it sorted out before warranty expires.
There was a video on Youtube before which shows the exact same thing, the owner got it fixed by a timing chain tensioner change, but mine was changed when I bought the car as certified used from BMW/MINI.
I have done a lot of reading on this forum and always though I am the only one with this problem.
