Air Conditioner

Well, it appears that my AC is not functioning. It just stopped working. I have 2005 with Auto climate control. The AC button is illuminated but it doesn't sound like the compressor is engaging while I'm listening under the hood. The airflow through the vents is increased when the AC button is on.

Any advice?

Thanks,
Bill

There is absolutely NOTHING unique about a/c on a MINI until you start replacing parts. So take it to ANY decent mechanic or chain auto store and get a basic a/c check. 9 times out of 10 they are gonna tell you there is a very small leak and offer to replace the part where the leak is for $$$$$

Tell them (ask them) to simply recharge the system {add gas} with dye {already in it} to identify the leak.

SOMETIMES you discover the leak is very very VERY small - a Honda of mine has been cooling for 2 years since I had this done. To need to gas every couple of years is NOT unheard of. If they fill it and you loose cooling in a month you probably need to replace that part (often the condensor or evaporator)

On the other hand if they tell you the compressor is toast you better get out your checkbook. 7 years on a compressor ain't 'early' burnout. I like mine to go longer but the one on my 2002 was gone by then.

seat of the pants mechanic sends . . .
