car jerking when let off the gas

hello all, so i come to you with this problem today. i have a 08 cooper non-s with 6-spd about 52k on it. i am the second owner. i never really paid much attention to it coz it doesnt bother me that much but im curious now. whenever im in gear and then suddenly let off the gas the car jerks. ive googled this and people have replied with multiple theories. does anyone have a good idea of why this is and if its fixable and if its expensive? is it something with the clutch or syncros? and also if i do 'fix' this (if its fixable) will it make it easier for smoother shifts and starts? any help appreciated thanks

Explain the 'jerking' movement? Like something shifts in / out of place?
If that's the sensation you're feeling you need to look at two major areas:
* engine mounts - could be loose / worn / damaged
* front suspension components - check for excessive wear or play, and make sure all hardware is tight

+1 Yes please explain the "jerking" movement. If it is a simple quick slowdown type jerk then it could be normal. I mean that in a way that if you are coming form an automatic they tend not to slow as quickly as a manual trans car will.

I am also not saying that you should not have it checked out but only that it could be different from what you are used to.

Being a 2nd owner, could be something the 1st owner installed.

+1 on the Torque Arm Insert from Way. When I bought my 08 naturally inspired clubman I hated the jerk, most prevalent at slow speeds in traffic 2nd gear as I slowly worked the accelerator without using the clutch. TAI fixed the jerk.

The side effect that comes with the TAI is a minor vibration at idle. After a couple weeks the rubber softens up and the vibration is hardly noticeable.

My car will jerk, usually when cold, the first time you take your foot off the gas in 1st or 2nd gear. But not always.

It's about 3 lurches before smoothing out.
