Oil leak R56

Hi Guys

If have been lurking here for quite a long time. I have learned a lot from this website.

Maybe you can help me with this problem: There is an oil leak on my 2011 R56 MCS - from a small pipe to the right and above the sump. There are no other symptoms.

My car is going to the dealer in a week so they can look at it. If there is the smallest problem on my car, it worries me so a week is a long time to wait!

Can anyone tell me what it is?

I see the water pump pulley, looks like the back of the engine.

I would say the timing chain tension-er is backing out. some say you can reach around the back and feel it to check.

If it is the tension-er backing out as you may well know, when it goes it dumps a lot of oil.

Thanks for the reply. The water pump pulley was changed a few months ago. They may have damaged something. The leak is very small and it is coming from the top of the pipe. It looks like it is a loose black sleeve around a very thin pipe.

I took off the wheel to have a better look. Its the line in the photo attached. The oil is coming for the top connection.

Any ideas what it is? Can I keep driving the car?

Believe that is the crankshaft position indicator. You can continue to drive without any worries as long as it's only a small leak. The R53's are notorious for having these leak when they get older but it's a pretty simple fix.

The dealer just told me that I am going to get a new oil pump. They say I can still drive it but to check the oil level regularly.

I can see the part on RealOEM - now that I know !!
