Air noise
Air noise
There is a lot of air noise in my car especially if you are driving faster than 40mph. After reading through this forum some say the source of the noise could be the sliding roof but I think may be it could also be the windshield. Perhaps there is a gap there or its not tight enough. Any ideas how to tackle this issue?
If there's a gap in the windshield, simple weather-proof RTV silicone will do the job.
But I super doubt there's separation between the glass and the body; most likely it's the sunroof.
When in motion, quickly jog the sunroof (not to open) to gently tilt, ...you should notice the whistle virtually disappear.

I dunno Erik, I think it could be the way the A pillar exterior trim meets the windshield.... because if you have your wipers on, the very split second they're fully vertical and deflecting wind from the A pillar, the noise stops
You could use some black door seal hose / foam tape and insert in to the gap and test.

The windshield was replaced a few years back, the vertical plastic holding the windshield seems a bit off, not much but just a bit. I wonder if that's the reason for this. The wind noise is quite a bit actually.
Initially I thought it was the sunroof and the dealership said they will charge $300 to adjust it and may be it will fix the problem. More and more am thinking its the windshield.

Drobinson - What brand brakes do you have on your mini. Am looking to replace the rear brake pads and rotors and the red you have looks good.
Using the sunroof toggle switch, quickly bump the switch in the direction of opening in.
If you observe from outside on the roof, you'll notice the front glass dips down a few milometers getting out of the airstream of the vehicle.
That dipping motion has removed almost all of my wind noise on my Clubman.
Through the dealer? If under warranty it shouldn't cost you a dime.
But really, many have gone in for "adjustments" and have seen little in return.
Turn up the stereo, right? Hell, it's what I do.

I have wind noise, very loud humming sound. I do not have a sun roof, moon roof or anything else. Seems to be coming through the vent looking thing on the back side of the interior light control area. I cover that up with my hand, and it goes away.
What is that vent for?

I looked into this and mine is not coming from those vents. Mine is likely from the windows or the sunroof
I found a service bulletin for the sunroof. It states that the cause is Incoorect Sunroof Panel Adjustment.
Since this is a service bulletin, does it mean that MINI should cover the costs under warranty even though I am over 50K miles. What exactly is a service bulletin.
If others are interested, I can post the PDF for service bulletin here. It includes the procedure to fix it as well.
