that does seem high. Just had mine done at third party shop with turbo oil lines and whole job was 800. Lucky, warranty covered whole repair.

Dont get me wrong, the turbo definitely puts out a ton of heat. That said it doesnt seem to be the reason for the valve covers failing.

If you check into some of the other threads here and elsewhere there is a good deal of discussion regarding the internal diaphragm that clogs up on the valve cover. It runs from the pcv side over to the inlet that runs down to the turbo. ANyway that diaphragm clogs up with sludge, go figure. When it is clogged the pressure builds up and the oil finds its way out.

I just had my cover replaced this week for a leak that was confirmed with a smoke test. I kept the original for fun and plan to dissect it to see what the internals look like.

Total swap-out time (including poking around and oo-ing and ahh-ing and generally being a slow-poke) was about an hour.

I've heard that the most common cause of leaking is actually a warped valve cover. YMMV.

The valve cover come with the gasket set and Oil cap , this part just had a part number update not too long ago. It does not include the MINI Emblem.

So the Bentley manual says to apply a thin layer "anti-friction compound such as glycerine" to the cylinder head contact surfaces. Has anyone done this? Is it completely necessary? What exactly is anti-friction compound?

Digging up an old thread.

Just replaced my cracked valve cover. Oil residue on the top of the valve cover. I couldn't stand the smell of burned oil everytime I pulled in the garage.

I have a 2010 with 48k miles. Seems odd it would crack, oh well, all fixed now and no oil smell and no more mess. Engine bay is back to clean!

Easy job to replace. The seals come with the new valve cover. You have to apply a little RTV high temp silicone to the two right facing corners. When you remove the valve cover, you will have to scrape the old leftover remnants from the original build. Seriously, this is a 30 minute job. Tip...this is a plastic valve cover, DON'T over tighten it. Hand tight and maybe a quarter turn.
