I was bringing in anyway for some things, so I don't know how long the aux. water pump itself took 2-3 hours?

Book time is 1.2 hours but the car needs to cool down too.

Mine was done yesterday, I didn't even know parts had shipped yet, and I didn't get a letter yet either.

My dealer is definitely pro-active!

Props to Baron MINI in KC!

Time to resurrect this old thread as I just received my recall notice today on my 2012 Cooper S. It seems that MINI Corporate is taking its sweet time in doing this recall, especially considering that mine was replace on my dime a year and a half ago...and this thread goes back to 2012 when this whole thing started.

Anyone else out there with N18 MINI that hasn't had theirs replaced and haven't receive a recall?

Got the letter today on our 2011 CM. It's already at the dealer for other sadness so it is going to be done at the same time.

Is there a site to check for the recall?
Bought my 2009 r55 used recently so
not sure that MINI has my contact address.

You should be able to call any dealer, give them the VIN, and they'll be able to tell you of any outstanding recalls.

You can save yourself the call and go here https://www.miniusa.com/owners/tools...rt/recall.html

No recall for me according to that.
(I had already checked that site but wasn’t sure how comprehensive it was).

I just received my recall letter on this (recall 18V-248). I had no idea this was from an issue identified in 2012. Holy cow! I have a 2011 Clubman S, and had the dealer pull all the service records from the key fob when I first bought it two years ago. I would think they would have mentioned it at that time if this was an open issue for my car, but don't remember them saying anything then.

Anyway, I'll be taking it in very soon for the annual oil change, and will deal with it then.

I recently took our 2012 in for an oil change. While there, they swapped out the water pump. Was there a couple of hours..

Ours is included. The car is in the shop (non Mini dealer) to have the water pump replaced. Should I have the shop not do it? If it's not done already. We just bought the car
a few weeks ago and didn't find this thread until now.

You could probably get reimbursed, though not sure about that. I would avoid the hassle and just take it to the dealer.

I hope it's not too late. I'll check with them in the morning.

One thing MINI doesn’t tell you is that without the aux water pump the turbo cooks the oil. I saw oil temps as high as 240 deg on the highway and if you push the car at all, like on the track, the oil can get to 270 deg. At these temps the oil isn’t going to last 5000 miles, let alone 10 or 15k as MINI would recommend. This means the turbo and engine are not going to last long if this isn’t fixed.

Took my car in to see if the work that I had done to replace this pump a year and a half ago would be covered by the recall. Turns out it is and MINI USA will be refunding my money...Woo Hooo
This work was done at the Dealer, so working through them was easy. They had everything on record and have submitted all of the required paper. Just waiting on the check to arrive.
