Only problem I've had is the auxillary fan catching road debris... once (around 5k). I did experience minor nuisances with the earlier software that v36 seemed to fix. But in that 34k miles no fluids (other than gas and wiper fluid) where consumed. Amazing. I changed the air filter element after second service, and I'll suggest everyone to consider checking theirs at the same time or earlier, it was very dirty. My stock base tires could probably go another 10-15k, but since I have another aftermarket set, they have only realistically gone maybe 10k already (making around 30k total life for stock tires). I haven't had stock brake pads since around 5-7k, but the EBC greens seem to be holding up quite well. BTW, I followed the suggested service intervals.

So here in about another month and a half, my warranty expires at 36k. I don't expect to miss it. The MINI is holding up amazingly well.

Bettie will be about 5K behind ya at one year (6 weeks to go), but I have the same to report. Running like a top and turning like one too! Everything is still stock with v36 software, but I am replacing the rims and tires for a better looking/holding combination soon. Look out Dragon, here I come!

Nice to hear!

I have 19000 miles after a year and 3 months of ownership. It's an 02 and the only thing that concerns me is its durability - i've had the dreaded PS fan failure but that's it.... knock on wood...

Goin440 & SumWon, congratulations on going lots of miles in a short time. There must be a fair share of highway miles in the mix to get this high mileage in a year. Highway miles are the best on a car which may account for lack of reliability problems. I am interested if you have done any performance modifications. If so, what?

Thanks for sharing.

Like I said, Bettie is stock. We have logged a lot of highway miles, but I driver her every day in town too. The only times she didnt go out with me this winter wa when the roads were slick cause I didnt pop for snow shoes. :???: Next year I am going to pick up a skid plate, steelies, and some snow tires so we can play in the snow too!

I have owned a lot of cars in the 20K price range, and I have to say the MINI is by far the best of breed!

Just an FYI, not sure if this is just my dealer, imna check around and see if this is true...

But coverage is up at 36,000 miles, if your computer is not within 500 miles of the schedule maintanance they won't honor it for free...

I have about 31,000 miles on my MINI, my computer says I have about 8000 miles before scheduled maintanance... i asked my dealer if i can have it done before my 36,000 they said no, only within 500miles....

ugh.

Mods/mileage ran with :

Borla Exhaust........3k
K&N panel.............3k
m7 PB..................20k
EBC green pads.....30k

I also have the Moss skid plate and another set of wheels.

About warranty... so if I chuck the tranny like high mileage 5spds seem to be doing, would they charge me? (I guess I do have a fear)

Why was the transmission replaced?

What is an AmD One Click?

My tranny went at 15,000 miles, and it took me almost 16 months to rack up that much mileage.

As far as I can tell, they will absolutely charge you for a new tranny if it self-destructs at 51,000 miles.

Jay,
The tranny was replaced because it felt like the clutch was slipping, I got zero friction, had to be towed in, not a happy camper. The symptoms that I had were; the tranny would jump out of gear when accelerating hard from a standing start. The clutch and pressure plate, just did not seem to mate. That was the major problem and I had scheduled to have it looked at prior to the failure.

The AmD OneClick is a software remapping of the ECU. The OneClick provides the ability to switch back and forth between the OEM ECU settings and the performance ECU settings. The difference between the two mappings is amazing. The power curve has been extended lower in the RPM range, roughly to about 2700 as opposed to 4500. While cruising on cruise control, I have the ability to smashdown the pedal and the car accelerates, no real need to down shift. All of this is with no loss fuel efficiency, infact it may have increased. It is so hard to tell, as I have only been running it for about 3 weeks now, and loving every minute. I have yet to go out and get my MINI dyno'd with the OneClick, but it is on my list. I feel confident that the dyno results will be positive. One thing to be aware of, you will not see the hp/torque increases that owners of the Cooper S see. Just a fact of life between the Cooper & the S.

Hope this provides some answers.

Chrisnl,
My tranny was covered under the 4yr/50,000 warranty. There were no questions asked by the dealership, they just put me in a loaner and installed a new tranny. It seems that I was not the first one that they had replaced and that it was a known problem. As for charging me if it happens again, well lets hope that it doesn't, but if it does, I purchased an extended warranty up to 100,000 miles. At the rate that I racking up the miles right now, that should occur roughly about Dec 2005.

Sorry, I cannot provide a link. I purchased the extended warranty package about a week after I took delivery, April 2002, for about $1100. To the best of my memory, I have a $100 deductable, and I am unsure of the exclusions. The repairs can be done at any ASE certified shop, or what ever the big overall licensing organization is called. I know that my local shop falls into this catagory, so no BMW/MINI shop unless it is really, really no other choice.

I will look around for a link, so stay tuned.

One and a half years motoring around Germany, and 7800 miles. Yes, only 7800 miles. Why? Well, I am in the military stationed in Germany and mainly use it to drive to work. Sometimes for fun, but to get aroung Europe you need a bigger vihicle with your friends included or you need public transportation.

GOTTA LOVE THE MINI MCS
