Wow you weren't kidding about this one took me over an hour to figure out how to get a socket on this and break that guy loose (bottom row third from left). Correct procedure turned out to be:
1. Insert a 3/8in drive 11mm deep socket by itself onto the stud
2. Sneak a 2in long 1/4in drive extension with a 1/4 to 3/8 converter on it between the heat shield and pipes.

getting on torque wrench on that one will be a major PITA when i'm putting this back together together.

I hope the rest of this goes a little smoother and faster but i fear not...

Finally finished and everything is back together. Getting car started up just fine and seems to run strong unlike immediately before it started giving me all the error codes as well as the overheat warning.

I let the car idle and kept refilling the coolant tank and eventually took it out for a spin around the block to really get the coolant flowing. I am still getting two error codes however.

P0599 Thermostat Heater Control Circuit High
and
P0503 Vehicle Speed Sensor A Intermittent/Erratic/High

I also got a bunch of other codes on ABS and airbags etc... that went off after the i drove the car a few feet.

The 503 code im having a hard time with there is not much info online so does anyone know what this is? and how is this related to changing the thermostat?

Also the 599 code i assume there is still some air-bubbles trapped in the hoses near the temp sensors maybe? and that's whats giving the codes?

Any help is appreciated!

TIA,

Spetza

Reading this is giving me nightmare because my coolant is leaking and I hope is not the oil filter housing. Would it cause the engine to feel like it's "kicking" when I am driving? I start noticing this last week and notice the heater was only blowing cold air. My engine did not overheat thank goodness.

Going to check my engine oil first thing in the morning!

Crossing my fingers.

Oil filter housing gaskets, full-flow filter housing, are notorious for coolant/oil leaks even on cars with relative low miles. They cause coolant/oil to drip on downpipe/exhaust. If your vacuum pump o ring is leaking oil it could cause aux water pump lines to swell and leak, best of luck to tracking and fixing that pesky leak.

Coolant and oil can either leak at the housing.

When replacing n12 and n16 oil filter housing gaskets, the heat shield nor exhaust needs to be removed, it also does not need to be put in service mode. The one bolt behind the heat shield can be accessed by simply bending the shield out of the way with a prybar.
