i have a 2002 cooper. i got it at 80,000 miles, in march it now has 97,00mi. [/U]i can travel freely between first and second, but trying to shift over to the rest of the gears it wont go. well, that's not true, with enough pushing you could slide it into fourth, but not third. my question is, no problems geting into gear, why the problem on the neutral slot? And it happened when it got really cold( though it was fine last winter)and not since it warmed up a bit. i mean, is it the linkage? or what? any ideas?

 

You have a midland box if I'm not mistaken. If you search the boards, you will notice so many issues that relate to this gear box in general.

Hopefully you don't need to replace the entire thing but it does seem like it...
