Back Up Key Issues

Hello, this is my first post, and probably only one of few!

My girlfriend is on the forum, she owns a 2011 Mini Cooper and shes having an issue while shes out and about.

She took her back up key so she can charge it and there seem to be issues. Shes not getting any sound out of the speakers. not on her bluetooth, not on her ipod, nothing.

She explained to me how each key will carry over the settings of the user (Which by the way is REALLY cool) but I cant seem to figure out why shes not getting anything out of the speakers. I suppose a real test would be to try with her normal key, but she doesnt have it on her.

So for now, does this sound like something anyone has come across? Thanks in advance for any help!

I understand sundays on a forum

I drive a subaru, so im on a subaru forum. but truth be told, im in love with her mini. shes let me drive it on a couple occasions and I had a blast!

i am still curious as to why it happened. if the keys have some of memory, does it know it was its first time being used and therefor there were no settings on it? its strange. ive never come across something like this before

well as far as i know the keys do have some sort of memory function as far as some user settings are concerned but I'm not sure if it goes to the extent of the volume of the radio.

I know it stores quite a lot of information on the key. The first time she used the back-up, it could have been transferring the data, and just needed the restart to initialize. That's just a guess, heh.

It does not have anything to do with the FOB. It is just a coincidence. FOB's do not have that kind of control over the car. They are only a memory device that the car accesses to get the information it needs. Probably a slight glitch in the head unit when the car first started up.

Now to explain a little more about the fobs to all of you.

1. Non Comfort Access cars have a FOB that will be charged when inserted in to the slot.

2. Comfort Access (CA) cars will NOT charge they have replaceable batteries.

3. Radio settings and a bunch of the other setting for wipers, turn signals, and such are stored but differ by year. the newer the car the more is stores. And no Volume is not one of the settings. But there is a turn on volume setting that can be adjusted in the dealer settings area of the radio.

4. Settings are stored only when changed and the FOB must be in the slot for either Non CA or CA cars to have it saved.

5. for CA cars the info is requested by the car when it is unlocked.

6. For Non CA cars the info is requested by the car on being inserted into the slot.
