Cleaning and polishing the headlight covers
Cleaning and polishing the headlight covers
I've looked at everything I can find in search, and tried six different products in trying to clean the dulling plastic that covers the headlights on our daughter's 2005 Justa.
While Novus #2 leaves a shiny surface, its still not really polished and smooth. I'm about to give up.
Has anyone out there had any real success in polishing these covers?

I have seen lots of advertised products that say that they will be able to fix headlight covers that are pitted. If the pits are deep enough then no product will work to correct the problem. And even if you provided pictures the true measure can often be how they feel to the hand. If you have tried six different products and none of them have worked I would guess it is probably time to try to find some headlights from a wreck with low miles.
I have done this to several of my older cars. Wet sand the headlights with 800 then 1000 then 2000 grit sand paper then polish with plastic polish of your choice. This will clean up the pits and imperfections in the plastic and restore much of its clear optical quality. It won't be perfect but much improved. You have to mask off the chrome ring around the headlight before you start to wet sand....take your time.
