Electrical Problem. NEED HELP!!

Hey everyone. I Just bought a 2007 Mini Cooper S JCW. unfortunately i had to buy a wrecked one off of copart bc i couldnt afford a new one. It had minor front damage. the radiator and Condenser was bad and it had scratches all over it. I didnt check out the car b4 i got it but i have gotten lucky with a car here b4 so i thought to try it again. The car was vandalized. There was gallons of water in the motor and for some reason no matter what i do i can not get power to anything but the side marker lights. the car will do nothing. i cant even get power to the instrument panel to see how many miles it has or to see if the motor is salvageable. My brother rebuilds cars for a living so i got all his mechanics to check it out and no luck. I checked all the fuses as well. There is no power anywhere in the car but the sidemarkers. One Horn fuse was bad and i replaced that and the horn worked for a second and then busted again. Ive lost sleep and alot of money so far. Maybe a shutoff switch after a accident? I dont know much about Bmws. Any help will be appreciated.

Why did you buy into it?

Was the car ditched into a lake or river? Or it is a flood car?
That would be the only way water could have entered the engine.

If the water damage theory holds, then you may have a long road ahead of you.
With the water, it'll ruin every electrical component on the vehicle.

The engine can be pulled and inspected to see if it'll crank, but with a possible non-working ECU, you won't get it fired.

Well... time to pull out a multimeter and begin to trace power from the battery into the fuse panel and through the load reduction relays.
But I'm afraid you grabbed a little too much that you're willing to deal with.

Are the airbags deployed? MINIs will shut down the fuel pump to prevent a possible fire when the air bags go off.

No its not a flood damage car. The car has also been keyed. so im guessing someone poured water in the motor.

I also got the mechanics to trace the all the voltage with a multimeter and no luck.

No airbags have been deployed and this is very interesting. Do you think this would also cause no power output to the dash and the rest of the electrical components?

What does that mean?

If you have power at the major components, you'd be getting more than just marker lights.
If you don't have power, you need to start at the battery and work your way through the electrical panel / fuses and check EVERY circuit.

i bought into it because it went for a great price and i admit i kinda got caught in the moment. The vandalism im not to sure. the car is keyed , water in the motor, and also no power to anything.lol. thats it so far. and it isnt a flood car. no signs of flood and the auction didnt announce it either. it seems that someone purposely poured water in the motor. And our mechanics traced all the power and checked all grounds. (as far as I know) but he isnt a bmw specialist either.

Traced to what? I'm asking if there's voltage present in the system.
We can't help you if you keep providing low grade, second-hand information...

If there is no power to the ECU / Instrument cluster / fuse panel, you've got a mighty fine paper weight on your hands.

Need help after a minor accident.

I purchased a 2007 Mini Cooper S jcw from an auction. Ive always wanted a mini cooper so when i seen this mini cooper with minor damage i knew this was my chance. The radiator, condenser, and front bumper needs to be replaced. I bought the car 3 weeks ago and since then i have tried everything to crank this car up. The only thing that has power are my hazards and my horn. The key is stuck in the ignition as well. Ive rebuilt cars b4 but this is my first mini. Ive heard that mini coopers shut off power and turn on the hazards during an accident does anyone know more about this? Someone else posted a similar problem and they said they had to reset the battery and fuel pump? this is the only information i have found online so far. Does anyone know what needs to be reset or the procedure to reset ? ANY help will be greatly appreciated.

Since it was hit on the front end, the airbag system may have blew the safety power system. But all of the water you describe in the engine could have affected it as well.

Go to this site and read EVERYTHING.

http://www.bmw-planet.com/diagrams/r.../r56/index.htm

There is a section about power safety system:

http://www.bmw-planet.com/diagrams/r...B-60657703.htm

You will need to install the adobe SVG plugin to show the schematics.

Here is the power delivery system page:
