MCs Stalls on low Gas
Because the MINI has such stick in the turns, you may have to keep about a half tank to ensure the pump stays covered. Skidpad turns and tight autoX manuevers slosh the fuel away from the center of the tank, where this pump/pick-up is. If more or less 'normal' driving causes it too, you might have an actual problem.
How much fuel do you need to completely fill the tank once you have begun experiencing the stalling? If it's more than roughly 12 gallons you could be almost totally empty and your gauge is still reading close to 1/4 full. Generally, cars with fuel injection will stutter and/or stall when cornering when there is less than 1 gallon or so of fuel left. Doing this is hard on the fuel pump, as running the tank at or near empty repeatedly causes the pump to take in air, and since the pump is cooled and lubricated by the fuel passing through it, this lack of fuel can burn out the pump.
Make note of how much gas your car needs to fill up. You might want to have your dealer check the gauge for accuracy. If the gauge is reading properly, stalling in this case could mean there is an air leak in the fuel pick-up piping, or the pump itself is not installed properly (not reaching the bottom of the tank).
