Gas gauge reading empty after fuel pump replacement

Hey all,

I know there are a bunch of threads on empty gas gauges despite the tank being full but it would seem my situation is a bit different. I should preface this all by stating that I have had an issue with my gas readings ever since I bought my car (pre owned) 3 years ago. The floater would randomly get stuck. Not a big deal. But just last week I got into my car and it waS reading empty so I pulled into a gas station, filled up and then my car stalled. After a few attempts the car started but when I hit the gas my car would hit 30mph and not go any faster. Mechanic determined the problem was a fuel pump. Replaced the fuel pump but then a day later I was getting and empty gas gauge reading again. I tried a few restarts and the gauge would not reset. Called the mechanics and he told me the sensor and float are in the pump he replaced. He didn't mention the other sensor on the passenger side. He recommended disconnecting the battery and reconnecting to reset. This worked at first but then on the very next start I received a empty gauge. I had to get gas anyways so I filled up. No reading. Got home and turn the ca off. Restarted and I got a half tank reading. Wtf?

So I guess my question is does this seem like a bad sensor on the rear passenger side of the tank since the fuel pump side sensor has already been replaced? Can this job be done without dropping the tank? I am confused about this since my mini rep says that is how it's done but I have heard differently here on NAM.

Thank all
