Maintenance Service Extension

I live in Puerto Rico and have a 2008 Mini Cooper S R56 with about 32,000 miles. The Maintenance warranty service expires at the end of this month. Last year I was offered an extension of 3 years for $1,395. Now they tell me it’s $1,995 for 2 years/ 50,000 miles and only covers the following:

Inspection 1:
- Oil change
- Air filter
- Transmission oil
- Coolant
- Belts
- Brake disc change

Inspection 2:
- Cabin air microfilter
- Power steering fluid
- Wiper fluid
- Wiper blades
- Brake fluid
- Brake Pad change

There’s no mention of clutch system like I was told last year. Not sure if it is really worth it anymore. They hiked up the price so much and it hasn’t even expired yet!
Is this the same elsewhere?

You are talking about two different things here is what it sounds like

Maintenance Plan is for 3 year 36,000 miles and can be extended and would cover the items you have listed.

Warranty Plan is for 4 year 50,000 miles and can be extended and that would cover the clutch and engine parts as you remember form you first conversation with the dealer.

They normally do not offer an extended "Maintenance Plan" when you purchase the car but they do normally ask if you want to buy the "Extended Warranty" at purchase.

So there is the difference.

No, It's not worth it.
Some Mini dealers are offering both an extended warranty, and an extended service contract. I won't say that all of them are, but I know of at least 2.

The "bait" in the extended service contract is the brake job. Mini will tell you that the bill for a brake job is over $1200.00, which is nonsense. This is $400.00-$600.00 in OEM spec'd parts.Including the complete replacement of rotors, pads, sensors, and < 1 hour of time if you have a lift, and 1-2 hours if you do it on your back in your garage.
Take the brake job out of the eqauation and you have about $100.00- $150.00 in consumables and two hours of work in your own garage.
Save the money for an actual repair you can't perform.

I would not do it. I have the extended maintanence plan now. The service intervals are just too long to get anything close to your money back. For example, I just had to get a $200 tow over a broken alternator belt. I'm at 79k miles. you would have thought they would have changed the belt when I was in the last time. I think what they are told to do is just check stuff. So basically you are going to pay $1500, $1800, $2000 for a couple of oil changes and a set of brakes. Which I what I ended up doing and I feel really stupid about it.
