Fixxxed triple light of doom[speed sensor] but...

So today I decided to replace my driver side wheel speed sensor. I decided that it was the driver side front because I can look inside the wheel and see a wire hanging out from behind caliper.

Pulled the wheel and inner fender off. Low and behold the wire I saw was not the wheel speed sensor. But I replaced the old with the new anyway. [Also hooked up my drivers side fog light that for some reason was unhooked] Put everything back together and took it for a drive. Tri-lights were still on. Got back to house and took the passenger side wheel and inner fender off. That sides wheel speed sensor looked almost brand new. Upon further inspection who ever replaced it last routed the wire in a way that it rubbed against the crank pulley and cut one of the wires. So I replaced that one with the one I took off of the drivers side. Put everything back together and started the car. BOOM, No more lights! YAY

Now for my two questions...Look just behind the brake caliper in the following pic. This is the other wire that looks like it has been cut on the drivers side. It is routed and plugged in right next to wheel speed sensor. There is not one on the passenger side. What is this? What could it be?

Second...This pic shows the wheel speed sensor that I took off of the passenger side. You can see where it is worn in two. Could I cut these wires, reconnect and the heat shrink them and have a back up wheel speed sensor?

The wire that ends is the pad sensor (if that is what you are asking (I R confused)). Just twisting or shorting it keeps the lights out for the pads.

Patching the speed sensor wire would be high on my list of money saving hacks. Done right I probably has the same life expectancy as new.
