I sent my mini to Brian Harris Mini to cure a "service engine soon". The first time it was returned with the light still glowing.

Then they replaced the air pump associated with the catalytic converter / emission control system. The second time it was returned, the light was off but it came back on the next day.

I am in Austin, TX and BH Mini is in Baton Rouge Louisiana and it rides on flatbed carriers the 400 or so miles between cities. The car is gone for a week each trip. I haven't sent it in a third time.

Harris is the nearest dealer, but there may be one or several this months in a couple of Texas cities.

Anyone else having this type experience?

I don't blame your for having it trucked to BR. The interstate ride is absolutely horrible between Houston and BR. (Austin to Houston is pretty good if you take 71)

I heard a new dealership is open and operating in Dallas. I would guess they have a full service shop as well.

Hope this helps.
Good luck.

Easy fix. Cut a circular peice of electrical tape and stick it over the indicator.

I had a similar problem, I had 62 miles on the clock when I have the service engine soon light come on with a loss of power. The service people replaced the accel pedal and the tach since I also had a high idle. I drove the car a couple of days and at 151 miles on the clock, the light came back on with a loss of power. The service guy's traced the problem to bad connectors on a plug, the wire connectors were not crimp properly, they showed me the clips. Since then I haven't had a single problem and it's motoring just fine. I'm not sure which plug it was but I sure the service manager (Gary King) at mini of Peabody MA would be willing to help you out.

I had that problem as well, including a loss of power. Would happen for a while and then go away, and then come back again. The dealer said it was a faulty "throttle unit" and ordered a new one, whatever it is. No problems now, thank goodness as it was pretty scary to suddenly almost stop and only inch along. Has your problem been fixed?
