engine noise- not the timing chain rattle

The timing chain rattle is so been there, done that:>

This is a rhythmic noise, kind of like a playing card in bicycle spokes.

It happens when the throttle is closed (high engine vaccum) and the car is coasting in gear. Its loudest in in the middle gears. At first, either opening the throttle or putting in the clutch would make it go away. It has now become constant, although the volume varies.

The car has had the timing chain and tensioner replaced. I took it to a dealer last week for this noise, and they replaced the flywheel. It seemed to be somewhat diminished after that work, but now its worse than ever.

Any ideas out there?

have you deleted your noisemaker? I have an awful noise after I accelerate it sounds like loud darth vader and is not the BOV...I'm going to delete mine soon and see if it solves the noise issue -- I only noticed it after I switched to the DDM air intake

I might have suggested the throw out bearing, but if the dealer had enough stuff apart to change the flywheel he couldn't possibly have missed that could he? Heck, if I got in that far I'd change that throw out anyway...It couldn't be that expensive...oh wait...never mind...I thought I was over on the Ford forum

the end of the story

The good news: it was fixed under warranty. Very well treated at Brecht/Escondido Mini.

The bad news: it took a new transmission to fix it.

Because its not dealer serviceable, they couldn't tell me the precise cause.
