After a pretty cold night, I started up my car this morning and and drove away. The car seemed to have some hesitation in 1st , and then it stopped accelerating in 2nd gear. Since I hadn't got out of the parking lot, I pulled into a parking space and the Service Engine light comes on. Sitting at idle, the car would drop to about 300-400rpms, and just when it was about to stall, it would quickly jump to about 1000-1200rpms. It would drop rpms for about 1 sec, then they rise for about 1 sec, fall, rise...I fulled depressed the throttle and it was like the computer just didn't care - touching the throttle had no effect at all. While the car's acting like this, there was no way to get it in gear or drive. I turned it off, waited a minute, and restarted it. Everything was fine, but the SES light was still on. I drove to work...left for lunch - SES light still on, but when I started up the car to return from lunch, no SES light and everything seems fine.

Weird, eh?

Hummm kinda sounds like "Limp Mode..." but a little different. I had that happen in a Z4 before... but not as bad i dont think... RPM suddenly drop and then it would not go up i can mash the pedal as hard as i want but the RPM would only go up to like 1300 or somthing and not any higher... I shut down the engine and restarted it and it was fine again.

Same exact thing happened to me several times over the course of a week. Took it to the dealer, said I had a bad engine wiring harness and replaced it. Might want to have them check it out. Last time it happened, I was in the middle of rush-hour traffic. Miserable
