Drops of radiator fluid

Hello to all;

I've noticed that my wife's 05 mini is leaking radiator fluid. It's comming from the middle of the engine or just behind. I've not been able to jack it up to get a better view. Just by trying to look under the car I just cant figure where there would be a radiator or heater hose in the middle about where the rear of the engine is.

leak

My 2006 was doing the same. I had it fixed it was the thermostat that was leaking. This is a known problem.

You didn't say what model so I'm guessing R53
Thermostat houseing gasket is probally bad.
Very common problem.
It is not the houseing, just the gasket.
Since you have it off, might as well change thermostat.

There otta be a little Pappa Smurf decal to stick on the driver's side door to indicate how many smurfs you've squished. I had smurf juice all over my garage floor once and had to have the gasket replaced. I'ts almost a rite of passage.

You might also check for the coolant leak from the plastic coolant tank, as that's another common source of leaking coolant.

yes if it is center and back of the block look at the heatsheild under the coolant overflow tank ... if there are signs of burned off coolant you probably have a leaking tank. Easy to replace and about $40 unless you go for stainless. One nut and a hose clamp.

I've found even the new and improved ones tend to last only 3 years then they weep at the seam when under pressure.

Check your coolant level now while waiting to fix either way . . .
