2011 MCS sunroof is creaking.
Just wondering if anyone else has same problem. I hear a creaking or tick noise coming from rear sunroof when driving over anything but smooth roads. Its seems to be over my right shoulder toward rear. I believe it is from the rear sunroof. Venting didn't stop it, but i didn't open all the way and listen.
There are a ton of posts about the infamous sunroof noises. I've noticed it now that the weather is getting warmer by me, and I've been driving with the sunroof open like all the time now. Even if I have it just tilted, it creaks and rattles. If I'm on smooth pavement, no problems, but once I hit a bump, you can hear it. Seems pretty common/normal. Don't know if the dealer has any solutions to the issue

I have that noice in my car too... For me it wasn't the glass roof itself, but the plastic trim underneath it and the sliding sunshade.
On a sidenote, I noticed that my rear sunroof panel jumps open from the pressure when closing any of the car's doors. Anyone noticed that too?

Okay here's my story...my car has this squeak at the sunroof area too. I've been trying to find out where the sound is coming from. I tried tilting the sunroof, rolling up the shades, looked for any loose parts...no luck. It can be annoying at times, but I told myself I can live with it until I can have it looked at at the dealership when I bring it there later on...maybe for something more pressing.
Finally, I had to bring my car to the dealer to have the "weeping washer nozzle" fixed (yes, my car has this problem too!
). I felt this needed to be fixed asap as it it might damage the paint. So I had the squeak checked too.
As it turned out, there's more to the squeak than earlier thought and the weeping nozzle was easier problem to fix. My SA told me that after stripping most of the roof parts, they figured that a missed weld at the roof structure is causing the squeak. He also mentioned that it's an odd case but not complicated to fix. The car is with them now and my SA will update me tomorrow.
I know it's a bummer that they have to strip the roof bare, but I appreciate that they were thorough in finding out the cause.
In the meantime, I'll just enjoy the 'brand-new' loaner MCS. It only had 36 miles on the odometer and the guy who handed me the keyfob told me they just added it to their loaner fleet this morning.
I just wanted to share my story...

My sunroof or something in that general area has also started to creak over rough road or any bumps. I haven't investigated much other than searching around on the forums, but these type of things seem to be the bane of my existence with every car I have lol

did the dealer fix your Mini? Did you run the hose over it to make sure it doesn't leak??
as far as the squeak is concerned, yes that's fixed. It's quiet in the cockpit now
and all I hear is just the sound of the engine and stereo. As it turned out, the SA told me that they weren't able to replicate the weeping nozzle so they couldn't fix it. He told me to continue to keep an eye on it and if it does it again bring it back. The nozzles have not leaked since. I think it happens during hot weather...but we haven't had one for a while now.

Edit: Oh nevermind, you mentioned what it was earlier. Durr.
My mistake...it wasn't a missed weld. Next time, I'll pay closer attention.
It would appear I have the same issue (or that is what they are thinking the noise is from). Funny, cause I never thought the noise I was hearing came from the sunroof, I thought it was just somewhere on the floor.....

Within the past few weeks I have noticed a creaking from the rear panel of the sunroof. After reading all the posts I tried to adjust the panel position with the 6 T-25 screws with no results.
When the sunroof is in "vent" position the sound is really obvious and sounds as if glass is being scratched upon by metal. When the sunroof is in any other configuration (ie closed or rear panel shut) the sound is still present however muted.
Having little luck with lithium greases and adjustments, I removed the entire rear panel to inspect for myself and what I found astonished me.
The rear panel's forward hinge point is atop a thin metal fin which is part of the entire sunroof assembly (not bolted on). The base of both these fins, on both sides of the sunroof, are cracked! The support arms upon which the rear panel is mounted to, is easily moved since both of the forward hinge point support arms are fractured.
This sort of a failure MUST be a manufacturing defect. Agreed? There is no amount of "spirited driving" one can do to fracture the sunroof rear panel hinge point support arms. That is an outrageous claim.
My question to you is, do you think MINI should replace this with no charge to me? Granted I am outside the warranty stage BUT this is a rather poor design/material choice failure, not simple mechanical failure due to wear or modification. A new sunroof assembly (according to realoem.com) is $2549!
Cheers

My 2007 Cooper S with 30K miles was just in for the 5th time for sunroof wind/creak noises (along with the various won't open-won't close issues). Each time I get it back the type of noise just changes to a different one. The last time was just prior to warranty expiration so I emphasized that issues needed to be resolved. Got it back and the "kazoo" noise at 75MPH was reduced in severity by maybe 25% but now in addition I have a new creaking noise louder in volume than before. My S is one of my favorite cars but the sunroof issues are driving me crazy.
Truth be told, the MINI's sunroof is a bad design... Most modern cars (and especially premium ones) have hidden seals (under the panel not in the periphery). This way, the seals are wider, seal better and are protected from sun radiation. I would imagine that noises resulting from improper adjustment are non-existent, as the seal itself acts as a support preventing rubbing.
Anw... Perhaps the best option for those with sunroof problems is to DIY remove the panels and examine the structure underneath. Some felt tape application can work miracles, provided the substructure is not fractured as with ENEMINI's case.

Sunroof clicking solved for me
While my Mini was under waranty, I had it at the dealer a dozen times over this clicking and grinding sounds from the sunroof whenever I went over bumps in the road. They even replaced the entire cassette once. the last time they found a broken plastic clip and I have not had any problems since.
