Engine oil cooler: conflicting info
Engine oil cooler: conflicting info
I suspect my oil cooler may be leaking since there is oil draining from above the right side of the oil pan and no sign of oil from the valve cover. I was comparing the diagram on realoem.com to the picture in my Bentley and found the two to be quite different. After checking several years they all look the same on realoem and the book says the cars with automatic transmission (Agitronic) do not have this feature. Admittedly I did not look closely enough at my cooler to see if it has the same pattern when I was inspecting the leak. Here is the realoem diagram which shows a triangular one-piece seal (#3):
Here is a picture from the Bentley which shows an entirely different unit with two separate seals:

Which one is correct? Will I have a surprise when opening this up? Could the oil pressure switch (#2) in the diagram be the culprit? Any info would be much appreciated.

I would try cleaning, then tightening all bolts a bit to make sure they are snug. Also tighten the sender. Then go from there. With the wheel and liner removed, you have a pretty good view of it all.
I'll try and get under there soon and give it better look. I'm still conflicted by the difference between the diagram and the pic but I guess the dealership can sort it out. If I have room to get a good pic I'll try. I had the supercharger checked and topped off about a year and a half ago with no sign of leakage, externally anyway.
I'm crossing my fingers on the crank seal.
I'll try snugging up the cooler as suggested. Maybe that will fix it. I just changed the oil 1000 miles ago and flushed the radiator. Oh well. I should start timing myself at this stuff to see if I improve.

The confusion is because you're looking at the wrong image on realoem.com. The one you have is for a justa, not an coop s.
The correct diagram for a MCS with an oil cooler is:

The oil cooler (heat exchanger as they call it) is part number 5. Picture A from your bentley manual is referring to the two gaskets that are number 6 in the image above.
I would probably check the tightness of the oil filter housing, sometimes the spring inside makes it a pain to screw the housing back in (that'd be part number 2 on the realoem diagram), also look to make sure the gasket for the oil filter housing is seated correctly.
Hope that helps you out a little.

Haha, sometimes I need to be smacked in the face with the obvious! I realized there are coolant lines to be dealt with but I was so fixated on the oil seal... So the book shows the coolant seals but does not show the oil seal. When I looked at the diagram on realoem the coolant seals look round rather than oval so I assumed they were completely different seals.
Now that my head is on straight...back to your regularly scheduled maintenance.
