I locked my glove box and when I put the key in to unlock it remains locked. A plastic piece came off which was located on the back of the lock. I was able to put that piece back on but it will not unlock. Any suggestions?

Did you ever get your glovebox lock to work again? I pulled the handle of my glovebox the other night and the following plastic piece fell out and now I can't open the glovebox (neither locked nor unlocked positions work.) I have an '05 Cooper S convertible. Let me know if the pic I'm attaching is the same piece that fell out of your glove box lock. Thanks.
old thread but it's the only one i've seen that shows the piece of the latch mechanism that fell out of my mini latch too! i think the **** part goes into the slot on the plastic piece at the end of the key cylinder. but i can't quite figure out how to install it so that when you turn the key, the latch unhooks.
It's now 2019 and the same thing has happened to my car. It looks like the tabs on either side of that plastic piece pivot inside metal sockets. That makes this piece a wear and tear item, as they will eventually wear out. That protuding piece on top fits inside a sliding rail on the handle.
If I could only get my fingers in there to fit it in, I would, but keeping in mind that since it fell off once due to wear, it will fall off again.
You can retrofit a staple from a staple gun or a paper clip to perform the function of unlatching your glove box door. That would be the one penny fix. But you would lose the locking functionality.
