i have a 2004 mini cooper ive owned for about idk 6 months if not more never had a sunroof problem. so the other day i figured to grease it up some because im sure it hasn't been done in a while just used reg grease. a week or two later starting today it opens just fine no noise nothing smooth as can be but when i go to close it sounds like its rubbing or sticking it closes like 3 inches then stops and goes back it will not close on its own unless i push it .

please help me =( im so worried its something bad hopefully just needs to be greased more idk ugh

i have the same problem with my 04 mcs. I have yet to try grease, ive been helping it close for about 2yrs. :D

 

thanks fort that other post but out of everything i searched no one really knows what causes these problems with the sunroof they all just say what they"THINK" will work . I guess ill just grease it up and hope for the best. there is no way in hell if grease it and if that doesent work force it close for two years .

 

yes it does suck, i just kinda left the sunroof closed the majority of the time.
maybe when i get mine back i will grease it now just to try it. since you have me thinking about it.

 

Im just one of thoes people that is really picky and ill try to fix it no matter how long It takes cuz it will bug me like crazy to the point I loose sleep lol

I did the same and by the 4th day the sunroof wasn't working ....

I checked with pals here in Mexico and told me that the regular grease was no good, had to open it manually, ungreased and use "blue" grease (the one with silicone or used in electronic boards)

works better!

 

I had to get my whole sunroof cassette replaced.
The dealer found that the original cassette was deformed and the whole thing including the motor was replaced. I hear that lots of MINIs have the problem when the weather gets warmer. My opened on one side and jammed like it wanted to open sideways.
