Help! Sun roof is stuck!

I have a 2006 MCS and the sun roof is stuck in the open position. I went out on a short trip into town this afternoon, and since it was nice and warm and sunny I opened the sunroof. I tried to close it while driving and it closed about half way and then it went back to the open position. I tried it again when I was stopped but it still wouldn't close. The sunroof comes in about an inch, makes a grinding sound, and then it goes back out again. It seems like something is stuck in the track, but I checked pretty thoroughly and it doesn't look like anything is blocking it. I tried pushing on the button and pulling the roof manually to pull it back in but that didn't work, although when I did this it didn't seem like there was something blocking the way but the sunroof was actually pulling very hard to try and get back into the open position. Has this happened to anybody and how can I fix it? For now it is garaged (it actually rained while I was in town and the roof was wide open ) but I drive this car to work everyday and I really can't do that if the roof is stuck open! It's still pretty cold here in New England!

Here's a link that addresses sunroof operations troubleshooting. Good luck. PS--I agree with roromini.

Did a quick fix ...

So I ended up recruiting somebody strong to push really hard on the sunroof from the outside and we managed to get it back closed (thank goodness, it's been raining a lot!). Some oil was put on the track but it still sounds funky and it doesn't open and close smoothly. Will definitely do some more work on it once the weather gets nicer.

PS thanks for that link buzzsaw, very helpful.
