Check engine light, before ignition

When I "turn on" my 2011 MCS (meaning key fob in, foot off the clutch, press engine start twice), is it normal for the check engine light to be on (steady yellow)? After ignition, it does go away.

Yes, that is so you know the lights work. All lights come on so you can (or maybe these days the car) can check the bulbs. Once started, the car checks all systems, if they are OK, it's lights out.

That's what I thought but in other cars usually the bulb check only takes like three seconds or so. On the MCS it will stay on until after ignition?

Just one of the many ways that the MINI is different.
