Clunk in boot area.

Well, I have had my MINI for 10 months now. I love it. It has been problem free thus far. I do have this strange clunk in my boot area. It seems to make a clunking noise when I drive over a bump. Has anybody else had this problem?

That or possibly an exhaust mount issue?

I had the same thing on my 2010. It was an exhaust bracket. Have the dealer check for that.

Also check the adjustable bumpers on the boot hatch itself, without looking I think they are about halfway up on each side of the hatch. Also maybe tighten the latch mechanism as well. Good luck.

i had a similar noise, at 1st i thought it was the rear bumper loose so tightened it up using bolts instead of the plastic things through the wheel arches.
Next drive - exactly the same
I then read about the rear anti roll bar bushes so changed them (£7.02 the pair) and all sorted
Dealers carry these in stock as they go through so many, runflat tyres are 1 of the causes as they don't absorb the bumps as much so the bushes take the strain

If the strings on your cargo cover shelf are not attached, the ***** on the ends will bounce around as you drive and make noise.

I somehow bent the thin metal heat shield around my muffler backing into a snow bank so that it came in contact with the muffler so I heard a weird low-pitch squeak and thumps coming from the rear.

I have an odd bump sound coming from the boot as well, however it is after I have driven the car. I will park in the am before work and listen to the radio for a few minutes and only when I have a full or mostly full tank, I hear this odd *thud thud* coming from the boot. I can't really pinpoint it either. I know my old Cherokee had a ping pong ball in the tank that was there by design and it would make noise from time to time, but it sounded like a ping pong ball. This noise is a bit of a conundrum for me.

My 2010 Justa has a strange thud every day I go to collect my GrandSon from school. Usually I'm early, so I park, turn off the engine then wait a few minutes listening to the radio before entering the school. There'll be an intermittent thud, like someone rapping on the sheet metal of the tailgate. I finally traced it to the parking brake. Probably temperature related, after driving awhile then stopping, the parking brakes will give an intermittent judder. I can stop it by releasing the parking brake but applying them again will start the thudding every minute or so. This is on a level road by the way not a steep hill. Very strange. Could it be a slipping cable?
