Oil Filter Housing Gasket Leak
Oil Filter Housing Gasket Leak
I'm trying to see if anyone else has run into this issue. I searched, but didn't come across anyone else.
~15k miles ago when I brought my MCS in for service I asked if they could take a look at a slight oil leak it had. They said it was the oil pan gasket leaking, but they would be replacing it anyway while they were fixing the timing chain tensioner issue. After I got the car back I still noticed a slight leak, but it seemed to be from a different spot since this time it was leaking onto the downpipe and burning off. Both leaks left small spots in my garage over night. I was unable to bring the car back for them to look at it again, so I made sure to keep the oil topped off.
Last week I got the car back from its last service visit, and again they took a look at the oil leak. First they told me the turbo inlet tube I installed was loose, and the oil was blow back dripping from the loose tube. I didn't buy it and asked them to take another look. The next day the service manager told me I was correct and it wasn't the loose tube, instead it was the oil filter housing. He said the gaskets between the block and the housing, as well as the gaskets between the housing and oil cooler need to be replaced. With parts and 6.5hrs of labor, it would be $800.
I picked up the parts from the service department for $40 and I'm planning on replacing them this coming weekend, but I'd like to know if anyone else has experienced this same leak? I currently have ~76k miles on the car, and it's out of warranty.
