Seatbelt hitting neck...

Hi,

The edge of the seatbelt in my 2011 Clubman S (and my husband's 2010 Cooper S for that matter) hits the side of my neck. Right now I am wearing winter clothes that usually has a collar or hood to help out, but I know it is going to irritate me once it is t-shirt weather again.

Has anyone found a solution for it? Before I got the Clubman we tried MINI's seatbelt thingie that goes on the headrest posts with the Cooper, but it was terrible. The parts guy even said "you don't want to buy this, it sucks" and put it on so we could see how terrible it was before wasting $30+ on it. Every time you tried to put the seat belt on the thing would snap off.

Thanks for any suggestions...

Maybe raise the seat so your shoulder contacts the belt?

I can try playing with my seat some more, but not sure it will really do much more than lift me up too high. The seatbelt isn't hitting high on my neck, it hits at the shoulder level.

I forget what it's called but there is a device that kind of "clamps" down the upper seatbelt with the lapbelt (like in your stomache area).

That way the area that normally hits your shoulder is moved away more.

Sorry I dont' know what it's called. It's kind of like a G-lock but not really.

When it is all the way down, is it rubbing? They usually are set high (they move in case you don't know)

I've had the same issue. I think it affects shorter drivers mostly.

With all the gizmos MINIs have, I was really shocked that there's no adjustable seatbelt height anchor. My Mom's Sentra has one! Sheesh.

Anyway, I've tried 'em all....those little clamp thingies that go near your lap don't stay on.

I've used one like this and it works well. It's a bit annoying, as it keeps slack in the belt and therefore when you get out of the car, the belt won't recoil unless you detach the clip. All in all, a very inexpensive fix for the problem. I got really zippy looking ones with little red "S" on silver plastic (not sure what the S means, but it lends itself to a MINI S!) so it looks very much at home in the MINI interior.

MINI use to have adjustable seat belts. I don't know why they stopped making them... so annoying.

How does this thing work? I am not really getting it. Could you snap a photo?

^ What you do is adjust the seatbelt slack to where it's comfy. Then you clip this thing on and it acts as a "stop" to prevent seatbelt retraction. I'll see if I can find a photo.

I'm still looking for a good pic of the one I mentioned, but I have also used this one before and it works:

Here you go...this is essentially how mine operates. You might have to try a few different types/brands 'til you find one that works for you. The good news is that they're very affordable.
