engine wouldnt shut off

i turned the key off today and pulled it out of the ignition, but the engine stayed running. so i pulled the ignition relay, the engine shut off. but the power steering pump stayed running, so i unhooked the battery. i hooked everything back up and now its working fine. any idea on what would cause this??

It was weird! Dealer was no help, they said "is the key in the off position?" and I said sir, it's in my hand!!

It could be an Ignition switch. We've only seen a few switches go bad, and usually they are an intermittent problem. Not seen one not turn off, but have seen them not start the car so it's very possible.
