whats wrong? weird revs and throttle
whats wrong? weird revs and throttle
my MINI seems to be making some weird moves lately.
02 justa standard
almost at 100k was serviced 14k ago.
first let me clarify, all the gears grab perfect. no slip at all! everything grabs just fine and when i shift everything is fine. but in all gears when i step on it, to say, get on the highway. everytime i step down i get a big rev up to about 5k then it comes down to the 2s and 3s with out loosing speed.
i find it happens a lot in 5th i can step on it in 5th and if i step to far it revs really high then comes down but keeps the current speed. also i seem to be hitting high rmps over 80mph im in the 3.75-4.5 range and over 90 im almost pushing 5.5
whats wrong here, this never happened before.

WELL Just read about the car, seems like my clutch is about to go =[ i cant afford this right now with the car not being under warranty makes it worse.
so whats the average cost plus install?
2. On the highway (preferably on a slight incline), put the car in one of the highest gears (5th or 6th) and maintain an engine RPM of approximately 3000 RPM with the clutch completely out. Watch the engine RPM and once again, quickly push the accelerator to the floor. If the engine RPM jumps up a few hundred RPM but the car does not accelerate, this can be a sign of a slipping clutch. Most of the time you will see the RPMs jump from around 3000 to 3500 almost immediately, then drop back down to 3000 at which point the car will begin to accelerate. The extent to which the RPMs jump will give you an idea of how badly the clutch is slipping. If you see a jump of 400-500 RPM, thats means the clutch is just beginning to slip. If you see any more than 500 RPM, then the clutch is probably pretty close to failing completely.

Yep, you need a clutch. Be careful when pricing the job to be sure each shop is replacing the same amount of parts - flywheel, release bearing and it's support tube for example. Sometimes a cheap price is not the best deal......
My momma told me, you better shop around!
