R53 Crank Pully vs. R50 CP

Can anyone tell me if an OEM crank pully from an 05 R53 would fit an 05 R50?

Penske Parts shows 2 different part numbers for the CP.

11237525135-R53
11237829906-R50

That cause they are very different parts...side by side, it is obvious.
Could you, not sure, but why would you?
The motors are similar, not the same...true about many parts, both internal, and external. Just use the correct part for car, or the aftermarket one if you wish!

You don't want to do that. The Cooper S crank pulley is much heavier than the R50 pulley and this would make your car slower.

I keep the OEM R50 crank pullies in stock, we've seen a few come apart. We also have a fluid damper for the R50 available.

Here is my story... I purchased a CP from an R53 from a fellow NAM member who informed me that that it would fit my R50, since I didn't do my own research, took his word for it and now I know it won't work.
I know I bear all the responsability, but am I being unreasonable to return the part and ask for a refund?

WayMotorWorks - I'll be in touch soon for a replacement CP. Thanks for the input.

Ouch...I hope it was an honest mistake. Hopefully you get it all cleared up ASAP.
Since r53's tend to have crank pullies fail pretty regularly, there seems to be a pretty good market for GOOD used ones...lower mile parts with good condition are worth more of course.

Reviving this thread since I'm looking into the same thing.

Way, do you know the weight of the R50 fluid damper you mentioned?

R50 stock one is 3 lbs. R53 stock one is 5.82 lbs. and ATI Super Damper is 5.6 lbs.

Only number I've found so far for the fluid damper is 7.92 lbs, which would make it an even worse choice than the R53 or ATI one. Can someone confirm the weight of the PRW fluid damper?

Don't know the weight off the top of my head, but I'd guess it's 6-7lbs for the fluid damper. I can weight one next week when I get back to the shop.

Thanks Way.

Given that rough range, any reason why you wouldn't just stick with stock or go with the ATI damper? Are the pulley diameters different between R50 and R53?

You can NOT use an R53 crank pulley on an R50. The crank snout is a different size so it won't fit. Has nothing to do with the diameter of the pulley.

Gotcha - thanks for clarifying.

ATI among others seem to think the two are interchangeable on their website and item descriptions. For instance, ATI says their pulley is for the "Mini Cooper standard and S engines" - very misleading.
