Window rattle issue

Hi,

I've got an 07 MCS with considerable driver's window rattle where it meets the roof. I've been to the dealer and they said it was normal from body flex. My friend mechanic there tried tightening the glass which helped... for a day. I drove two 2011 loaners and friend's 08 MCS with 30k miles. Loaners had no rattles and friend's Cooper had a very, very little.

Does any of you experience something similar?

Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!

I have window rattle/creak in both doors. Dealer claims that they cannot hear it.

It seems to vary with temperature.

I'd say that the temperature does affect it! Does anyone know where are some screws for adjusting the door/window to make it tighter against the car? I'm also gonna get front strut brace to help stiffen the car and reduce the body flex.

Mine does it too. The dealer lubed up the window seal and adjusted the window a little bit and it seems to be gone for now. However, I think it'll come back eventually.

I will be following this thread closely.

Most cars without the door frame around the window will end up having some sort of problem simalar to this. The window is adjustable but only up and down. Its behind the door seal but requires a special tool from MINI to perform.

I've also been reading about different lubricants that supposedly help. A simple Google search netted some decent results.

Thanks a lot! I will definitely try to look up the lubricants.

FYI, looks like a few people have had okay luck with the one on BavAuto.com. It's made by Autosol and it's supposed to be similar to a product BMW used to sell. The one thing that I worry about is having to lubricate the windows too often.

I have this problem with the drivers side window. It is really bad for the first few miles on a cold winter day, but gets better as the car warm ups. I do not have any window rattle in the summer. Its getting to that time of year where it gets REALLY cold and all those little rattles that disappeared during the summer come back.

After six months, no rattles anywhere.

I never thought of that - I should pay more attention to it when it gets warmer here. Given that it's not necessarily 'cold' here but 40* temps at night tend to make the window nice and loud in the morning. I also noticed that once I hop on the highway en route to work, that it goes away. I am hoping the lube the dealer used lasts awhile. In the meantime, I am ordering my own so I can gunk up the window seal every time I hear it.

I have this same issue and it drives me nuts. The dealer warned against using "certain lubricants" on the rubber around the doors and windows as it could cause the rubber to break down. Anybody know which ones are "safe?"

Did they give you any suggestions?

I am going to try the AutoSol stuff on BavAuto.

FYI, I'm going on almost 2 weeks after the dealer lubing the seal and the rattle is still significantly reduced. My sunroof... well that piece is a different story but whatever.

You don't want to use petroleum based lubricants on your cars rubber seals. Silicone lubricants are OK to use though.

I've had the r57 for 6 months now and that rattling is a *****. Initially we took it in and they replaced the door strikes which were part of the issue but the sound came back within a week.
THEORY: We noticed that this may be a flaw in design (possibly) As the mechanics mention everything has been installed to spec
So failing the mechanics competence and numerous other threads complaining about this must be a design flaw?
When all 4 windows are in the the most upright position either the back window or front windows are not fully supported with soft materials. Driving my rear tire over a bump at speeds over 50 kmh (31.0686 mph causes a disturbing rattle.

Hopefully most of you that have commented are still getting notifications. May I ask for your help in testing please and have you respond.

TEST: Drive with all 4 windows down just a hair. That is the windows should have little to no space.

I noticed on ours that the millimeter(s) of space made a huge difference in the window rattle.

I may try some sort of rubber window spacer at the top of the window so it restricts it from closing completely. Most likely will have to have the top of the spacer treated with silicone though to prevent rubber on rubber squeaking.
