2010 Cooper S Bottom Door Seal?

I didn't see a current thread on this, just one from 2007. But what is the deal? You wash your car and your sill plates are soaked. No water getting inside the car, but that is a crappy design. Seems like early 2007 production cars had an additiional piece of weather stripping on the bottom of the door that is no longer included?

Does anyone know if the seals from the early 2007's still fit the 2010? I assume they do, but why would they be elminated to begin with?

My dealer gave me a lame story about how those slots in the bottom of the door are just there to drain water. Funny how every other car I own has a piece of weather stripping there.

I wonder if they fixed this design on the 2011's?

Well, nobody ever responded. So, either nobody cares, nobody knows, or nobody knows what I am talking about. I went ahead and bought the door seals from Pelican. Says 2007-2009, but am assuming they will fit the '10 as well. I'll add some pics and my two cents when I get them. Still wondering what the doors on the 2011 look like?

Don't know about what fits what, but I purchased the Door Seals not long after I realized that the 2007's had them installed and my 2008 did not come with them. Obviously a "Cost-Cutting" measure from MINI that was NOT in the best interest of the Consumer!!

And I just want to say thanks for even pointing this out. I've had my 2010 for over a year, and have been annoyed by the fact of wet sills every time I so much as even wash it, I mean really bugs me! Didn't even realize there's a seal that mounts there, but not there! So I did the same thing and ordered these for my own car. And that BS of them being drain holes? Hogwash! I looked at the bottom of my doors, and there's already provisions for water drains that don't include these 9 mounting slots....9 mounting slots in the door, 9 tabs depicted in the parts description....

Thanks for the "tip", mine are on the way. Another annoyance fixed.

here is the link to the original thread that I found.
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...door-seal.html

The verdict is fairly mixed on whether they do anything or not. (like most mods).

http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...FRONT%20BOTTOM

Item Name Item Price Quantity Item Total
--------- ---------- -------- ----------
51-76-7-146-093-BOE $16.00 2 $32.00
DOOR WEATHERSTRIP FRONT BOTTOM, Cooper S (2007-09) Coupe with N14
Engine (R56), Brand: Genuine MINI
- This part is oversized and may require additional shipping
charges.
- This is a special-order OEM part and is non-returnable except
for warranty replacement.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Shipping for Package 1: $9.00

Total Price: $41.00

Should be an OEM part number, so could probably take it to a mini dealer and get them there as well.

I let you know if I think they do anything after I install them. doesn't look like they have shipped yet, so will be awhile.

Hey Kimbell, my boat has already sailed, but did you notice a difference with and without the seals. Less water? Less Noise? Better sounding thump when you close the door? Anything?

Thanks!

My 07 had the seal on the passenger side and not on the driver's side... My 08 doesn't have either... I read somewhere, probably here on NAM, that with the seals installed you're more likely to get corrosion under the seal and the door because water and crap gets trapped under there and that was the reason they removed them.

This would be an easy fix with 3M door molding tape, which I plan to do when my seals get here. Run a strip of 3M across the bottom of the doors (the gray tape with red backing) right over the holes where the seal would sit. Cut out the holes, install the seals. This stuff makes a perfect impervious seal between two parts, and last virtually forever with the proper prep.

Good call 10zero, I'll have to grab a roll of that tape as well.

Less water on the Door Sill after they were installed for sure!! Sound wise, if you mean "road" none that I've noticed, they have been installed for a couple of years now.

Let me just say that it was well worth what ever I paid to have these installed and like you I only found out on NAM.

I haven't ever seen water on the door sill on my Clubman, I'll have to have a look to see if it has seals.

Love this stuff! Been using it for years on a huge variety of applications and has never failed. First learned of it back when Jettas always had door molding falling off.

Picture added

Okay, got the door seals. Installation took a couple of minutes. Fit was perfect. I washed the car, and water on the seal was 100% better. Seems like the door closes with a more muted thunk as well. Makes the door look finished. I didn't add the 3m moulding tape, going to see how it goes. There are still 3 or 4 holes open on the bottom lip of the door, so water draining out of the door shouldn't be a problem. I think I will add a blast of compressed air to my car washing ritual just to be safe.

Do they just snap in place?

Yup, just snap into place. Snap on/snap off if you want. Fit is secure.

interesting. i guess i havent really minded the water since i kind of use it to clean the jambs every time i wash it. Always figured the water mostly came from the sides and flushed its way down there anyway

Got my seals a few days ago too, but haven't put them on yet. Been going through a hassle with PelicanParts over what appeared to me as a manufacturers defect of sorts...at least that's what Michael Ashcraft at PelicanParts is calling it.

But now here's the kicker Trex...I'm looking at your picture, and you have the same issue as me...see that little trimmed out cut at the end of the seal? (left side of your pic). I got both my seals delivered, but one of them is squared off on each end (what I presumed normal), and one has this funky cut in it. Since both seals are universal (meaning there's no left or right and p/n's are the same)then why this cut? If it's intended, why? and where is it to go? If I put the seal on the right door (like you), the cut is to the front of the door. If I put it on the left door, then it's to the back of the door. Only one of my two seals are like this, and no one knows why. My attached pic shows a close up of what I'm talking about.

So that's where my next headache started. I contacted PP and they apologized, thinking its a manufacturers defect on the part. They gave me an RMA to return the seal...but I gotta pay to ship it back. Ok....another $10 I'm thinking. They place a "new" order for my replacement seal, saying they weren't gonna charge me shipping for the new seal (damn right I'm thinking). I log on to find my new order for the replacement seal to be shipped out tomorrow, with $9.00 shipping added....I can go on and on, what a nightmare!

Anyways...do you or anyone else on here know why that cut is there? I thought I was an isolated case, but now I see you with the same cut.

This is perplexing....

Mine has the little trim out on both pieces, and the lame part is the cut out is on the same end. So in the picture (passenger side), the littled trimmed piece is towards the front of the car, on the driver's side (no picture of that), the trimmed piece is towards the back of the car.

I assumed they had sent me two for the same side of the car or something. If I had to guess, I would say the trimmed out end gives any water that does make it past the seal a place to drain out. I'll just trim up both ends of each to match and live with it. Nobody would ever notice it. Most people probably don't even notice the seal is missing to begin with.

TREX

p.s. It is an oem part, so you could wander down to the dealer and see what they have on the shelf.

Pretty goofy if you ask me, especially when you get two with this cut, and the same end...I got one uncut, and one cut...none of it makes any sense. Oh well.

I just saw this thread. I bought the seals for my 2010 about 5 months ago and it made a huge difference in the reduced amount of water and dirt on the rocker panel. Also, I ordered and installed the rubber cover that attaches around the door stop arm. I had to order two new screws because the head is a different shape to hold the seal over the door stopper arm. I'll see if I can't take a picture and put it in my gallery.

Yeah 10zero, something isn't right. I received two of the exact same, so the part numbers were identical. did you happen to notice if your part numbers were the same? Pretty lame of Pelican Parts to make you pay for shipping in any direction if they think it is a manufacturer defect. Guess I'll cross them off the vendor list.

If I were you, whenever you get the replacement, I would throw it on and don't look back. They are worth having.

MiniDean, post a picture, sounds like something else I have to have. I love farkeling.

Part numbers are the same, so there's no left or right application. I've already put the "uncut" one on my drivers side, very impressed indeed. Just waiting for my "replacement" to arrive to put in on the passenger side. I think I've got the message as clear as I can to PP, to not send me another seal if it's cut like the first one. They've closed the last message ticket, so I'm hoping and assuming they're sending an uncut one. Worse comes to worse, I'll put the other one one where the cut will be to the front of the door like your pic.

Here's the sad thing about dealing with this issue and dealing with PP...seems whenever I deal with their customer service, it's like I'm a huge inconvenience to them, throwing an attitude to me. Just don't get it. The frustration is to the point I don't care anymore, just get an uncut seal to me and be done with it.
