Realtime Traffice issue

Hi,

I bought a 2009 MINI Cooper S in New York and imported it to Toronto Canada. My RDS stop reporting realtime traffic. when I tried to check for traffic in the Toronto area I get the below message.
"No Signal"

Hope someone can help me with this.

fyi - I do get station and music details on my regular FM channel. I did make sure RDS option is checked on my console.

Now that fall foliage is in full swing, drive down to NY and see it it starts working again . I'm thinking not all radio stations transmit RDS metadata. You should call your local station and see if they transmit RDS. Some stations in my area do --some don't.

That wouldn't be a bad idea. I like road trips .

Navteq does cover Toronto area for traffic. Anyone else in the TO area have real time traffic working for them?

Maybe ask in the NAM region forums for Canada.

I have been reading a lot about the RDS. I think my fix may be to change the country setting from US to Canada in the entertainment consol. Anyone know how to do that? I have the Nav consol? There are instructions to change it on a non nav unit. I would really appreciate if someone can help me here.

thank you

Harry -- I'm a supplier to BMW for traffic services. The problem you are having is due to the fact that the Canadian government has never adopted the (more or less) universal RDS TMC broadcast standards, so the traffic service cannot be supported north of the border.

Last I heard this was not expected to change any time soon.

Do you know then what standard is adapted in Canada? I know Garmin and TOMTOM GPS's offer traffic updates. NavTeq also shows they have realtime traffic coverage in Canada (Toronto).

thank you

That is likely part of the problem but I if it is offered in the area it is likely that your radio is coded for USA and not Canada thus it is not recieving the signal. On the first gen there was a way to get to a hidden menu to set the radio to the region you are in (this is how I got TMC working on a USA spec car in Germany) but I am not sure on the second gen. I'm sure is a way to "program" the radio for the region.

I have read a lot of threads about resetting the region on R53's and the 56's. However I have not seen any instruction on resetting the county/region on cars with the GPS upgrade. Hope someone can help me out.

Within 8 seconds of turning the radio on, press and hold the m button until the service menu appears. Since it sounds like you have Nav, I am not sure how you can scroll through the menu to find the region setting, but the region setting is in there.

Cool sounds like it is the same as the 1st Gen... + and - was used in the 1st Gen to navigate the menu. Thanks for the info!

Thank you.

There was couple of threads on this. I can't change anything on the NAV system. Also there is no "M" button.

See, this is where I haven't played with the new MINI radio enough. It may be all computer based programming.
