Floor Mats

I have the stock floor mats in my car and they move around way too much for me. The drivers side mat will sometimes slide forward and get caught in the clutch pedal during shifts. It looks there are 2 large circular pads on the bottom of the mat that are supposed to keep it in place, but they are either worn or just dont work. Any suggestions for aftermarket mats that wont slide or maybe a way to mod my current ones? What the car needs is an mat/floor anchor system.

If you have the stock floor mats, they should have come with 4 (2 per side) plastic disks that "screw" into the carpeting. The pads on the bottom of your mats "velcro" onto these disks, and that keeps the mats from moving.

Ah, okay. Looks like I am missing the plastic disks.

If you live near a dealer stop in and ask an MA. They failed to install them in my first MINI so I stopped by and they had a file cabinet drawer full of the little discs so we put them in and problem was solved. It's worth a try...good luck.

Luckily, they are less than a mile away. Thanks, I will go there and ask politely.

That cabinet drawer is a testament to all of the customers who bought a set of mats, but the dealer didn't bother to install the disks.

I suppose if you are still interested in an aftermarket floor mat, you could look into cocomats. They aren't inexpensive at $129.95 for just the two front mats, but they are customizable and good quality.

I asked them if they saved them to play some sort of showroom ballgame when no customers were around. They had to have hundreds...

Just in case your dealer doesn't have a drawer full of disks they never bothered to install for their other customers, here is the P/N info ....

You have the stock carpet mats? I have those and find them to move a lot too. I also have the OEM rubber mats, and they stay in place much better, so that's an option for you.

When I bought my car used, it came with the OEM S rubber mats and a set of GP mats. (For some reason, the previous owner didn't want the GP mats in his GP. Strange.) Both of them stayed in place just fine, but I noticed I was starting to wear out the carpet type GP mats, so I took them out and put the OEM rubber mats in to save the GP mats for special occations. So, if you don't mind rubber, I'd go with the OEM S mats.

Or if you prefer a carpet like mat, I'd get a pair of those aftermarket mats that have a raised lip all around. Not only to they stay in place pretty well, but it contains water and melting snow and the like. We have them in our Murano and they work great. I forget what the brand is, but if you look in Car and Driver or Road and Track, they're one of the two major brands that always advertises in there.

Well, i guess pretty is not the right term...they certainly have more of an industrial look and feel, and less plush!! It may be one of the few items on a mini where function over-ruled form!!
I like them...some don't. To each his/her own!!

I used to use the rubber ones with the S only in the winter, but now, I use them pretty much all the time to save my GP mats for special occasions. I suppose I could get some aftermarket, though.

I have the oem rubber mats and LOVE them! They have never moved on me and they are a dream to clean with some mild soap and a soft brush. I would never think about using a set of carpet matsmin any of my cars ever.

Yeah, that is exactly what the dealer quoted me. Looks like the cabinet full of leftovers was empty.

Mine came with both, and I always 'remember' to swap them for summer just about this time of year.
