Christmas tree dash lights
Christmas tree dash lights
Tuesday night: Boyfriend drives the mini through "about a foot" of water during a storm. Car is dropped about 2.5". This ripped the bumper cover part way off and tore out part of the core support just under the radiator fan on the drivers side, but nothing drastic so far as I can tell.
Wednesday night: About 24 hours later, the power steering starts going in and out about every 10-30 seconds. PS pump is a BBA-reman unit still under warranty at only 14 months old. It has not been ruled out yet.
Thursday morning: Go to put fuel in the car. While the engine is off and key is in my pocket the dash lights all light up, some flickering and flashing and the gauge needles bounce around. No power to the fuel pump. Car won't start.
Thursday afternoon: After sitting about 6 hours in the hot Arizona sun with the battery disconnected at the gas station, everything seems normal upon reconnecting the battery except that the power steering is still non-operational. The car starts right up and drives home.
2 Hours later: After running errands in a different car I come home to notice the MINI's brake lights on. Looking inside, gauges and dash lights are going crazy again despite being completely shut off. I disconnected the battery again and there she sits.
Battery is about 1 year old and has plenty of juice. ECU has been opened up and seems to be clean and dry. The car had been dry for about 48 hours when it last acted up. Where could water have gotten in to the harness? What other connections may have been torn up or effected by water underneath the car that I could check? All ideas are welcome. I have an autox school this weekend and I am desperate to get my car running again before hand.
