It could be a bad master cylinder/slave....so the clutch MIGHT be OK. It might need to be replaced/bleed...it is hydrolic.

Just be sure to say..."x is the problem, can you fix it" and maybe say..."i have heard some of these cars have issues with the master/slave" ...let the mechanic do his diagnosis......
The place you are going to...is it a mini centric shop?! These cars are kinda quirky, and the learning curve is kinda steep....and it is best to letthe mechanics learn on somebody's else's nickel!! I drive about an hour to my MINI guy....a bit further than the dealer...but the prices are good, service is great, and he does a good job! Do a bit of research, and find a good shop...check with the "local" clubs/members in your area. Where are you located?!

Lots of folks from RI, VT, and ME and me in NH go to
Greasy’s Garage
143A Hamilton Street
Worcester, MA 01604
He is THE independent shop to go to in the NE. Not a fancy place, but well worth the drive IMO. Been open about 2 years (a few months at his current location), and he maintains 200+ regular MINI's, plus his other customers cars! This is saying lots since he does almost all the MINI stuff himself....it is a small shop, but he is great with scheduling!!
he is also the founder of a MINI centric board like this for the Massachusetts area.....so he is a MINI maniac...he had one till it was totaled...and he is working on getting a "new" gen1 MINI.

Check the clutch slave cylinder, that's most likely leaking.
