Belt Replacement HELP!!!
Belt Replacement HELP!!!
First I would like to thank those individuals that posted on here to get me to this point. I have a 2006 S with Auto with 64K miles. I went into Limp Mode, which I had not heard of before so that cause a lot of concern.
From all the forums that I have found here today it looks as though I need to replace my belt. I went to see if I was able to get this belt replaced and even with all the good information on here I was not able to even see what was being described. I beleive that the reason for that might be due to the Automatic transmission.
If anyone out there can assist me in this project I would be greatly appreciative. Also I am not in possesion of the required belt tensioner tool, I will be getting one soon just need to get this completed ASAP.
Again thank you.

Do you have a Bentley Manual? If you are going to do much routine maintenance (and perhaps even some more detailed maintenance) that manual is a good reference to have. It has a nice drawing of the belt in the N/A as well as the S/C cars.
The first thing you need to know is that the car will have to have the right front wheel removed so that the wheel well liner can be removed. It is preferable to have it supported by a jack stand although in an emergency I suppose just the jack would suffice.
The belt is on the right front side of the engine and you can see some of it by shining a flashlight down behind the oil dip stick, just pretend you are looking into a black hole.
If you have average mechanical ability the belt is not a very difficult job but if you are not mechanically inclined, I would recommend having it done by someone who is.
I'll try to answer any particular questions you may have.

I was looking at it this afternoon. I found a lot of great information on here, just no pictures to speak of. I was able to see and feel a lot of the belt it just seems to me that there are a lot of items in the way of the tensioner. I understand that removing the wheel and tire is an option, is that the best way in which to get to the belt? I will be tackling this tomorrow as I need to get it back on the road. I am going to, after the fact, get the Bently book and the tensioner tool. My biggest issue with this was I was not able to even see where to place the key in order to lock the tensioner into place so that I could even get started.
Thank you.

I'm sorry to say that without the tool to release the tensioner, the job is virtually impossible. Futhermore, I would not even attempt it without removing the wheel well liner.
There are two holes on the flat surface of the tensioner, the tool slips into those holes and has a long lever handle that uses a levering action to release the tension. I should also not fail to mention that two people are required, it is not possible to retract the spring and work at the same time. Please understand that there may be more than one kind of tool but the only one I am aware of needs someone to retract and someone to place the belt.

The reason for nt being able to wait is it is my only vehicle and issue have come up as of yesterday. Need to have it on the road for work on Monday. I understand the importance of the correct tool for the job Just cannot drive awaiting the tool to get to me.
